Builder/Architect Airtightness Training

This one day training covers airtightness from top to bottom in a day. Starting with a short discussion on what an air barrier is, and how to define it on your project,  the day quickly becomes a hands-on class that details how an air barrier is made, how it fits at a ceiling junction, how it connects to the foundation or slab, how it works around balconies, decks, and overhangs,  and how it connects to plumbing, sprinklers and vents.

Air barriers can be placed at the interior or exterior of a building. It's common to have a section of the air barrier on the exterior and another section on the interior. Attendees will be able to experiment with ways to connect the outside to the inside and take the best advantage of project and material options. Attendees work with a wide range of air-sealing materials and get a deep understanding of available materials, and how they perform.

Small Plane Supply is interested in a Small Planet Supply mobile air-tightness training to as many locations as we can. Our ability to conduct a workshop in any community is based on four factors:

  • Distance from Vancouver BC, where our instructors are located. Workshops will need to conduct workshops on Friday or Saturday to accommodate their work schedules. Exceptions can be made in extenuating circumstances.

  • Use of a 1000’ room that has double door access (for the modules to fit through) and no stairs leading to the training room.

  • A minimum of enrollment of ten participants.

Airtightness Training for Building Inspectors

We also offer a training for inspectors at our Small Planet Supply Vancouver location.

This course is slightly shorter than the airtightness course but will give inspectors a solid background in stepcode requirements and what to look for when they inspect buildings that are working to meet the new building codes.

a mock blower-door test helps participants see the success (or failure) of their airtightness sealing during the class and understand how to remedy any deficiencies that are found. And, it’s fun!
