IN STOCK AND READY TO SHIP

Small Planet Supply is the exclusive stocking distributor of Thermacork for the western United States and Canada. A full range of sizes and types are maintained in our Tumwater, Washington facility.  We stock 1", 1-1/2", 2", 3" thick standard and Facade/Decorative Grade panels. Thicknesses up to 12" are available for planned projects. For Passive House or other low energy projects, thickness of 4" and 6" can be achieved in a single layer with a shiplap cut. With one layer and one trip around the building, the shiplap cut can be an economical alternative to other rigid insulation boards that require multiple layers to achieve the same value. Contact us for "shiplap joinery" to help apply thick panels onto wood frame buildings in easy steps.

IT'S AN ENERGY SAVER

Cork insulation will drastically reduce energy consumption, and its energy saving qualities will last decades, far longer than most choices. This is due to cork's high insulation value, stability, and its reduction of thermal bridging.

SUPERIOR QUALITIES

Cork is incredibly stable and can cope with major thermal variations, between (-) 292 degrees F to (+) 248 degrees F. It's hypoallergenic and free of all domestic toxins, all while preventing mold by its ability to "dry through" layers. It's high on the insulating range (R-4 per inch), reduces thermal bridging, and its thermal resistance does not decrease over time like man-made foam. It has excellent sound isolation, is dimensionally stable, and resistant to compression. For more information about using cork for sound isolation, see our blog post, When ‘No Sound’ Sounds Good: Using Thermacork and Other Materials To Manage Noise.

EASY AND FRIENDLY TO APPLY

Working with cork doesn't leave you itching and scratching. It doesn't leave the job site covered in foam particles. There are no endocrine damaging fire retardants. It doesn't compress like mineral wool so there are no tedious screws to move in or out to keep a wall plane straight. It comes in packs that are easy to lift and carry, and panels that are easy to apply and can be nailed in place with a nail gun.

Designing Healthy Building Assemblies Using ThermaCork

If you’re interested in learning how you can use ThermaCork in your home for insulation, our latest blog post contains information you can use to make your plans. Small Planet Supply commissioned RDH Building Science to develop guidance for building assemblies in climate zones around the west. You can click on the report to the right to read their recommendations. We also have other resources that can help you as your figure out design for your building assemblies.

Pacific Northwest ThermaCork Facade Performance Study

ThermaCork makes a great building facade and continuous insulation layer in one pass around the building exterior. It doesn't need paint or stain and will naturally weather in the elements just like the tree bark that it is. We've been curious just like everybody else how well it will really perform. Will it trap moisture in the wall cavity? Will it lose its insulation value if it soaks up water?

Well... we are going to find out. We've commissioned a study by the regions leading building science company RHD. Data loggers have been placed throughout the wall assemblies in a project in Olympia, WA. Data tracked will include both temperature and moisture levels from the inside to the outside of the walls. The study began in 2015 and will run for up to three years. In the end we will even get a useful WUFI model.
